Isaiah 34 - Praying God's Word

Please read Isaiah 34.

Meditate on verses 1a, 2, 5, and 8a.

Draw near, O nations, to hear; and

listen, O peoples!  For the LORD'S

indignation is against all the nations, and

His wrath against all their armies; He

has utterly destroyed them; He has given

them over to slaughter.  For My sword is

satiated in heaven; behold it shall descend

for judgment upon Edom and upon the people

whom I have devoted to destruction.

For the LORD has a day of vengeance…

Isaiah 34 describes God’s day of vengeance, a time when His indignation and wrath are poured out on all of mankind who do not know Him as Savior.  God hates it when people, like Edom (Esau), despise the birthright He gives them, their birthright to become a child of His, selling it for a bowl of the world’s “red stuff” (Genesis 25:30-34; Malachi 1:3).  People who choose the way of the world rather than the way of Jesus Christ are forewarned they will be utterly destroyed and given over to slaughter (v. 2).

Yet, God desires for all men to be saved and come to knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:3-4).  Salvation is why the LORD invites all people to hear and listen (v. 1).

As a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7), pray Isaiah 34:1 and 16 over the “Edoms” in your life who need salvation from the coming wrath of God.

“LORD, please let _______________ draw

near to hear and listen.  May they

seek and read from Your Book, LORD.

Holy Spirit, gather them to You!

In Your name, Jesus~”
