Daniel 3 - Praying God's Word

Please read Daniel 3.

Meditate on these three words from verse 18.

But if not…

If you grew up learning Bible stories, Shadrach, Meshach, Abed-nego, and the fiery furnace was probably one of them.  In 1940, the British knew this story and exactly what “But if not” meant.  Those words were the rallying cry for the people of England to send every boat possible to rescue Allied troops surrounded by Hitler’s forces at Dunkirk in May of that year.  The troops were miraculously saved when more than 300,000 men refused to bow and surrender to the Nazis and their evil ideology.   Just like the three brave Hebrew young men, they did not compromise their convictions.

Today’s temptations to compromise Biblical truths are shockingly similar to the times of Daniel and his friends.  “Would it hurt to change God’s Word on this issue?”  “Surely, all roads lead to heaven so long as you are faithful.”  When you are threatened for taking a stand for Christ and His Word, finish the sentence, “But if not…” with an unwavering declaration to remain firm for God.

Pray Daniel 3:16-18 and 28 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, give __________ and me wisdom for when

we do not need to give an answer concerning a

matter.  God, we serve You, and we know You

are able to deliver us from this fiery situation

and out of the hand of __________.  But even if You

do not, let it be known we are not going to serve

the gods of this world or worship any golden

image or opportunity.  Blessed are You, our God!

Deliver us!  We put our trust in You!

In Your name, Jesus~”
