Psalm 135 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 135.

Meditate on verse 1.

Praise the LORD!  Praise the name of the LORD;
praise Him, O servants of the LORD.

This psalm is addressed to you and gives you a command: “Praise the LORD, O servants of the LORD.  You who revere the LORD, bless the LORD” (vs. 1, 20).  (Bless means to praise, glorify, magnify, and extol.)

This psalm also tells you why you are to bless and praise the LORD:

·      He is good, and His name is lovely (v. 3).
·      He is great, and He is above all gods (v. 5).
·      He does whatever He pleases (v. 6).

The psalm continues to tell about some of the great things the LORD did for Israel that should cause them to praise Him (vs. 8-14).  What has the LORD done on your behalf that deserves your praise?

As a servant of the LORD, praise the LORD because you revere Him.  Start with the words from Psalm 135:1 and 3-7.

“Praise the LORD!
 I praise Your name, LORD.
I praise You for You are good, LORD.
I sing praises to Your name, for it is lovely.
LORD, You have chosen me for Yourself.
Please choose _________ for Your own possession.
I know that You are great and that You are above all gods.
LORD, You do whatever You please,
 in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.
LORD, do whatever You please in _________ and my life.
 You cause the clouds to ascend from the ends of the earth;
 You make lightnings for the rain;
You bring forth the wind from Your treasuries.
 (Continue to praise the LORD for what He
has done for you and those you love.)
Praise the LORD!”
