Psalm 127 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 127.

Meditate on verse 1.

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor
in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city,
the watchman keeps awake in vain.

The Hebrew word, shav, translated as “vain” in the meditation verse can also be translated as “falsehood” and “lying”1 Recall Psalm 120; the psalmist knew how miserable it was to be in a place of lies. This eighth step in the Songs of Ascents acknowledges what the psalmist learned at the beginning of this upward journey—it is a waste of time to build and live apart from God. A house built without the LORD is built on a false foundation; it will topple under the weight of lies.
Commit to building your life and the life of your family on the rock-solid foundation of Christ and His Word (Luke 6:47-49). Commit your works to the LORD; let the Master Builder execute His plans for your life (Proverbs 16:3).
Ask the LORD to guard your family by praying Psalm 127 as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, unless You build _________ and my house,
we labor in vain who build it.
Unless You guard our city, home, and family,
we keep awake in vain as watchmen.
It is vain for us to rise up early, to retire late,
 to eat the bread of painful labors;
please give to us, Your beloveds, even in our sleep.
Behold, children are a gift from You, LORD,
the fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
so are the children of one’s youth.
How blessed are those
whose quiver is full of them.
Please bless ________ with children, LORD.
Do not let us be ashamed when we speak
with our enemies in the gate.
In Your name, Jesus~”
