Meditate on verse 3.
The
LORD has done great things
for us; we are glad.
Can you imagine the psalmist’s face as he
joyfully sang this Song of Ascents? Rescue from the dwelling place of
lying warmongers was merely a dream, until he looked up to the Maker of
heaven and earth (Psalm 120; 121). Then, the miraculous hand of God took him
back to Zion, to the mountain of God, to the place where His temple
stood (Psalm 122; 123). And the psalmist
rejoiced with others whom God had rescued; they rejoiced with laughter and shouting, telling about the great
things the LORD had done.
If you are a Christian,
this is your Song of Ascents, too. You were trapped in sin, without peace, steeped in the lies of
the world. Then you looked up to the Maker of heaven and earth, the Maker
of your soul,
and He rescued and restored you from captivity
to sin. Praise the LORD!
Pray Psalm 126
as a joyful, faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD,
when You broughtback __________ and me to You,
we were like those who dream. Let our mouths be filled
with
laughter and our tongues with joyful shouting.
Let
it be said of us, ‘The LORD has done great things for them.’
LORD,
You have done great things for us; we are glad!
Restore
us from all captivity, O LORD, as water in the streams.
Let
those who sow in tears reap with joyful shouting.
Let
those who go to and fro weeping, carrying their bag of seed,
indeed
come again with a shout of joy, bringing their sheaves with them.
In
Your name, Jesus~”
