Song of Deborah and Barak - Praying God's Word

Please read Judges 5.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/jdg/5/1/s_216001
Song of Deborah and Barak
Meditate on verse 13b.

The people of the LORD came down to me as warriors.

Deborah and Barak sang this song after God gave the Israelites victory over the Canaanites who had severely oppressed them for 20 years (Judges 4:1-3). It declares victory in so many areas of their lives. After 20 years of doing evil in the sight of the LORD and being punished severely for it, finally:

·      the leaders led in Israel (v. 2).
·      the people volunteered (v. 2).
·      the people of the LORD showed up to fight as warriors (v. 13).
·      there were great resolves of heart (v. 15).
·      there were great searchings of heart (v. 16).

Do not stop praying for those you love to finally follow Christ. Pray for your leaders to lead and be Godly. Pray for God’s people to volunteer. Pray for the people of the LORD to fight as warriors. Pray for God’s people to search their hearts and resolve to do what’s right in His sight.

Pray Judges 5:31 as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“O LORD, let all Your enemies perish,
but let those who love You be
 like the rising of the sun in its might.
Please let our land be undisturbed.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Song of Moses, Joshua, and God - Praying God's Word

Please read Deuteronomy 32:1-43.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/deu/32/1/s_185001
Song of Moses, Joshua, and God
Meditate on verses 2-3.

Let my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew,
as the droplets on the fresh grass and as the showers on the herb,
for I proclaim the name of the LORD; ascribe greatness to our God.

On the day Moses died, he spoke this song to the children of Israel, with his successor, Joshua, by his side (Deuteronomy 32:44-52).  Moses starts the song with a prayer request that his words will distill (purify) the hearers.  Then Moses immediately condemns the people for being corrupt toward God their Father (vs. 5-6).  After elaborating on their abominations (vs. 5-18), the LORD takes over the song, warning the people of His coming judgment, but also reassuring them of His mercy and compassion (vs. 19-43).

What a treasure—the final words of Moses that are the eternal Words of God!  Take them to heart, letting them distill you.

Appeal to the LORD with His Words by praying Deuteronomy 32:20, 28-29, 31, 36, and 39 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, please do not hide Your face from ___________ and me.
Do not let us be a perverse generation; make us Your
 faithful ones.  Make us a nation guided by Your counsel
 and understanding.  Make us wise, so we can understand
and discern our future.  Jesus, You are our Rock, and there is no
 other rock like You—let even our enemies know this.
LORD, vindicate us, Your people, and have compassion on
us, Your servants, when You see that our strength is gone.
You are God!  There is no god besides You!  You put to death
and give life.  You wound, and You heal, and there is no
one who can deliver from Your hand.
In the name of our Rock, Jesus~”

Song of Moses and Miriam - Praying God's Word

The Psalms are not the only songs in the Bible.  For the next 23 days, you will read and pray those other songs, scattered throughout Scripture.  We hope it is an amazing time with the LORD, during this season of Advent—the days leading up to the celebration of Jesus’ birth.

Please read Exodus 15:1-18, 21.
The Song of Moses and Miriam
Meditate on Exodus 14:31-15:1a.

When Israel saw the great power which the LORD had used against the Egyptians,
the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in His servant Moses.
Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the LORD.

The LORD acted in such a miraculous way on behalf of His people that the immediate response was singing a song, declaring His amazing attributes.  As the men sang the story of God’s victory (vs. 1-18), the women danced and played timbrels (tambourines), singing the chorus:

Sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted;
the horse and his rider He has hurled into the sea.
—Exodus 15:21

This can become one your songs of victory.  Use the words from Exodus 15:1-18 to praise the LORD.

“I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted.
(Tell what the LORD has done for you.)
The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.
This is my God, and I will praise Him; my father’s God, and I will extol Him.
The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is His name.
(Tell what the LORD has done for you.)
Your right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power;
Your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy.
And in the greatness of Your excellence, You overthrow those who rise up against You;
You send forth Your burning anger, and it consumes them as chaff.
(Tell what the LORD has done for you.)
Who is like You among the gods, O LORD?
Who is like You, majestic in holiness, awesome in praises, working wonders?
(Tell what the LORD has done for you.)
The LORD shall reign forever and ever.”

Psalm 150 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 150.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/150/1/s_628001
Meditate on verse 1a.

Praise the LORD!

It is fitting that this book of 150 psalms ends with four praise psalms. Recall many of the psalms are desperate cries for God’s help and deliverance. Some are prayers for God’s vengeance on enemies. Some are questioning psalms asking God, “Why?” Ending the 150 psalms with praise is the perfect benediction; for at the end of it all, it should be praise to the LORD for His sustaining grace and mercy on you, no matter what and despite all.
Praise the LORD one more time with Psalm 150 as His faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Praise the LORD!
 God, I praise You in Your sanctuary;
 I praise You in Your mighty expanse.
I praise You for Your mighty deeds;
 I praise You according to Your excellent greatness.
 I praise You with trumpet sound;
 I praise You with harp and lyre.
I praise You with timbrel and dancing.
 I praise You with stringed instruments and pipe.
 I praise You with loud cymbals;
 I praise You with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise You, LORD.
Praise the LORD!”

Psalm 149 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 149.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/149/1/s_627001
Meditate on verses 5-6.

Let the Godly ones exult in glory;
let them sing for joy on their beds.
Let the high praises of God be in their mouth
and a two-edged sword in their hand.

Psalms 147 and 148 tell why and who are to praise the LORD. Psalm 149 tells when and how to praise Him. With spoken and singing words, dancing and musical instruments, praise the LORD (vs. 1-3, 5). Praise Him when you are with other believers; praise Him when you are alone or with your spouse on your bed; praise Him when you are fighting for the sake of His name (vs. 1, 5-6). In other words, all the time, with everything you have, in every circumstance, praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD with Psalm 149 as His faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Praise the LORD!
LORD, I sing to You a new song;
 I sing Your praise in the
 congregation of the Godly ones.
Let Israel, _________, and me be glad
 in You, our Maker.  Let the sons of Zion, __________, and me
 rejoice in You, our King.  Let us praise Your name with dancing.
Let us sing praises to You with timbrel and lyre.
 LORD, take pleasure in us, Your people;
beautify the afflicted ones with salvation.
We are Your Godly ones; we will exult in glory
 and sing for joy on our beds. The high praises of You, our God,
 will be in our mouths and a two-edged
 sword, Your Word (Hebrews 4:12), in our hand.
 By Your Word, let us execute vengeance on the nations
 and punishment on the peoples, to bind their kings
with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron,
 to execute on them the judgment written;
 this is an honor for all Your Godly ones.
Praise the LORD!”

Psalm 148 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 148.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/148/1/s_626001
Meditate on verses 12-13.

Both young men and virgins, old men and children,
 let them praise the name of the LORD,
 for His name alone is exalted;
His glory is above earth and heaven.

Psalm 147 told you why you praise the LORD. Today’s psalm tells you who is to praise him—everything in the heavens, and everything and everyone on the earth. Every created person, animal, and thing is to praise the Creator. Interestingly, scientists have learned that planets and stars do actually emit sounds. Here is one of many websites where you can actually listen to planets praising the LORD: http://canyouactually.com/nasa-actually-recorded-sound-in-space-and-its-absolutely-chilling/

Jesus even said that if the people didn’t cry out in praise of Him, the rocks would (Luke 19:40). Praise the LORD with Psalm 148 as His faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Praise the LORD!  LORD, You are to be praised
 from the heavens and in the heights.
May all Your angels praise You.  May all Your hosts praise You.
 May the sun and moon praise You.  May all the stars of light praise You.
  May the highest heavens and the waters that are above the heavens praise You!
Let them praise Your name, LORD, for You commanded
 and they were created.  You also established them forever and ever;
You made a decree which will not pass away.
LORD, You are to be praised from the earth.
 Sea monsters and all deeps are to praise You.
Fire and hail, snow and clouds, stormy wind, fulfilling Your Word;
mountains and all hills; fruit trees and all cedars;
 beasts and all cattle; creeping things and winged fowl;
kings of the earth and all peoples; princes and all judges of the earth;
 both young men and virgins; old men and children,
 let them praise Your name, LORD, for Your name alone is exalted;
Your glory is above earth and heaven.  You have lifted up
a horn for Your people, praise for all Your Godly ones,
 even for the sons of Israel, a people near to You.
Praise the LORD!”

Psalm 147 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 147.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/147/1/s_625001
Meditate on verse 1.

Praise the LORD!  For it is good to sing praises to our God;
for it is pleasant, and praise is becoming.

It is proper and fitting to praise the LORD, and this psalm tells you why.  Praise the LORD with Psalm 147, telling Him why He alone is worthy of your praise.

“Praise the LORD!  It is good to sing praises to You, God.
It is pleasant, and praise is becoming,
 so let __________ and me praise You forever.
LORD, You build up Jerusalem;
You gather the outcasts of Israel.
You heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds.
You count the number of the stars;
You give names to all of them.
 Great are You, LORD, and abundant in strength.
Your understanding is infinite.
  LORD, You support the afflicted;
You bring the wicked down to the ground.
We sing to You with thanksgiving;
we sing praises on the lyre.
You cover the heavens with clouds;
You provide rain for the earth
 and make grass grow on the mountains.
 You give to the beast its food
and to the young ravens which cry.
 You do not delight in the strength of the horse;
You do not take pleasure in the legs of a man.
 LORD, You favor those who fear You,
those who wait for Your lovingkindness.
 LORD, let that be our family!
May Jerusalem and Zion praise You.
 Strengthen the bars of their gates
and bless their sons within them.
 Make peace in their borders
 and satisfy them with the finest of wheat.
 You send forth Your command to the earth.
Your Word runs very swiftly.
 You give snow like wool.
You scatter the frost like ashes.
 You cast forth Your ice as fragments;
 who can stand before Your cold?
You send forth Your Word and melt them;
You cause Your wind to blow and the waters to flow.
 You declare Your Words to Jacob,
 Your statutes and Your ordinances to Israel and to us.
Praise the LORD!”

Psalm 146 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 146.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/146/1/s_624001
Meditate on verse 5.

How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob;
whose hope is in the LORD his God.

The psalmist knew he should trust in the LORD instead of trusting in people to save him (v. 3). As he recalled who God is, his confidence grew strong in Him.
Pray Psalm 146 and let the words increase your confidence in God as you trust Him more and more as His faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Praise the LORD!  Praise the LORD, O my soul!
I praise You, LORD, while I live;
 I sing praises to You, my God, while I have my being.
I do not trust in princes, in mortal
 man, in whom there is no salvation.
His spirit departs; he returns to the earth;
 in that very day his thoughts perish.
How blessed are _________ and I whose
 help is You, the God of Jacob;
 our hope is in You, LORD our God!
You made heaven and earth, the sea
 and all that is in them.  You keep faith forever;
 You execute justice for the oppressed;
You give food to the hungry.
LORD, You set prisoners free.
LORD, You open the eyes of the blind.
LORD, You raise up those who are bowed down.
LORD, You love the righteous.
 LORD, You protect the sojourners.
You support the fatherless and the widow,
but You thwart the way of the wicked.
 LORD, You will reign forever to all generations.
Praise the LORD!”

Psalm 145 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 145.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/145/1/s_623001
Meditate on verses 19a.

He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him.

What an encouraging psalm of praise for those who love and fear God!  Pray it now over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, I extol You, my God, O King, and I
 bless Your name forever and ever!
Everyday I bless You and
praise Your name forever and ever!
LORD, You are great and highly to be praised.
 Your greatness is unsearchable.
Let my generation praise Your works to another
and declare Your mighty acts.
I meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty
and on Your wonderful works.
Let _________ and me speak of the power of Your awesome acts
 and tell of Your greatness.   We eagerly utter the memory
 of Your abundant goodness and shout joyfully of Your righteousness.
LORD, You are gracious and merciful,
 slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.
 LORD, You are good to all, and Your mercies are over all Your works.
 May all Your works give thanks to You, O LORD,
 and Your Godly ones bless You.
 Let us speak of the glory of Your kingdom and talk of Your power.
 Let us make known Your mighty acts
 and the glory of the majesty of Your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and Your dominion endures throughout all generations.
LORD, please sustain us when we fall
 and raise up all who are bowed down.
 Our eyes look to You; please give us our food in due time.
 Open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.
 LORD, You are righteous in all Your ways and kind in all Your deeds.
LORD, You are near to all who call upon You,
 to all who call upon You in truth.
LORD, we fear You; please fulfill our desire
 and hear our cry and save us.
  LORD, we love You; please keep us.
We will speak Your praise with our mouth.
May all flesh bless Your holy name
 forever and ever, LORD Jesus~”

Psalm 144 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 144.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/144/1/s_622001
Meditate on verse 1a.

Blessed be the LORD, my Rock.

David had such a personal relationship with the LORD that he knew God as:

·      my Rock
·      my Lovingkindness
·      my Fortress
·      my Stronghold
·      my Deliverer
·      my Shield

How do you know the LORD?  Continue the list from Psalm 144 with your own, saying, “God, You are:

·      my __________________
·      my __________________
·      my __________________…

Continue talking to the LORD your God with the words from Psalm 144:1-2 and 12-15 as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, my Rock, my Lovingkindness,

my Fortress, my Stronghold,

my Deliverer, my Shield, my Refuge,

 let our sons in their youth be as grown-up plants

 and our daughters as corner pillars

fashioned as for a palace. Let our garners be full,

furnishing every kind of produce,

  and our flocks bring forth thousands

 and ten-thousands in our fields;

 let our cattle bear without mishap and without loss.

Let there be no outcry in our streets!

 How blessed are the people who are so situated;

 how blessed are the people whose God is the LORD!

Please make us Your blessed people!
In Your name, Jesus~”
