Meditate on verse 18.
He (Jehoram) walked in the ways of the kings of Israel,
just as the house of Ahab had done, for
the daughter of Ahab became his wife;
and he did evil in the sight of the LORD.
First, try not to let the Jehorams and Jorams frustrate you. There was King Jehoram (sometimes called Joram), son of Ahab and king of Israel. There was another King Jehoram (sometimes called Joram), son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, who married the daughter of Ahab. So, King Jehoram of Israel and King Jehoram of Judah were brothers-in-law.
Interestingly, Jehoshaphat did right in the sight of the LORD (1 Kings 22:43). Sadly, Jehoram did not get the same descriptor as his father because he chose to walk in the ways of his evil in-laws (v. 27).
It matters who you marry and who their family is! Pray for the people in your life making that critical choice to seek the person God wants them to marry. If you married a person who loves Jesus more than they love you, be thankful. If you married into a family who needs to know the LORD, keep your covenant marriage vows, staying faithful to your spouse and the LORD. Pray fervently for God to change the descriptor of your family to: “They walked in all the ways of the LORD.”
Pray the opposite of 2 Kings 8:27 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, let __________ and my house be described as a
house that walks in Your way.
Do not let us do evil in Your sight!
May our children and grandchildren
marry into the houses of Your Godly ones.
For the sake of Your name, Jesus~”
