1 Kings 19 - Praying God's Word

Please read 1 Kings 19.

Meditate on verse 13b.  The LORD is speaking.

“What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Instead of a victory party after God won the showdown on Mt. Carmel, Elijah was attacked by the enemy and running for his life (vs. 2-3).
Can you relate? Often after doing great things in God’s name, one can be exhausted and even attacked by Satan and those not as excited about what the LORD has done. God does not want you to be afraid, but He does want you to do some of the things Elijah did in that difficult and exhausting situation. Consider these practical steps:

·      Find a quiet place and rest (vs. 4-5).
·      Eat nourishing food and drink lots of water (v. 6).
·      Rest some more and eat again (vs. 6-8).
·      Read God’s Word and listen to Him speak directly to you (v. 9).
·      Talk to God, being honest about your feelings and everything that is happening to you (v. 10).
·      Let the Holy Spirit gently breathe new life into your sails and go in the strength of the LORD (vs. 12-13, 15).

God’s Word is so practical! Thank Him for giving you the story of Elijah and pray 1 Kings 19:9, 12-13, and 15 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Thank You that Your Word has come to _________ and me.
We hear Your question: ‘What are you doing here?’
 Help us to answer honestly.
Holy Spirit, gently blow in our lives and speak to us.
When You say, ‘Go,’ let us obey completely.
In Your name, Jesus~”
