Meditate on verse 1.
Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the settlers
of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD, the God of Israel lives,
before whom I stand, surely there shall be neither
dew nor rain these years, except by my word."
The opening words of this chapter introduce you to Elijah fearlessly delivering a message from the LORD to one of the most evil kings in the history of Israel, King Ahab. With just a few words, you know several things about Elijah; although he is in the presence of an earthly king, his allegiance lies with his heavenly King. You also know he fears the LORD more than he fears man as he boldly speaks the Truth of God to wicked King Ahab.
For the next week, you will learn more about Elijah, a mighty man of God who fearlessly spoke God’s Word. As you read, notice his actions and attributes and ask the LORD to help you emulate his Godly qualities.
Pray 1 Kings 17:24 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, may others know that _________ and I are people
of God and that Your Word, which is in our mouths, is truth.
Help us boldly speak Your Word of Truth.
In Your name, Jesus~”
