Joshua 24 - Praying God's Word

Please read Joshua 24.

Meditate on verse 1a.

Then Joshua gathered all

the tribes of Israel to Shechem.

Just before he died, Joshua brought the Israelites back to the place where their story began.  It was at Shechem, 600 years earlier, where God brought Abraham and first promised him the land of Canaan (Genesis 12:6-7).  Now, Joshua is with Abraham’s promised descendants in their promised land, and with his dying breath, Joshua reminds the people of God’s faithfulness (Joshua 24:2-13):

“Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘I took

your father Abraham from beyond the River and

led him through all the land of Cannan, and

multiplied his descendants and gave him Isaac.

To Isaac, I gave Jacob and Esau.  I sent Moses

and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt.  I brought your

fathers out of Egypt.  I brought you into the land

 of the Amorites.  I gave them into your hand;

I destroyed them before you.  I gave you

a land on which you had not labored.’”

Recall God’s faithfulness in your life.  In a prayer of commitment, pray Joshua 24:14-18 as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, may ____________ and I fear and serve You

in sincerity and truth.  Let us put away

the gods of this world and serve You, LORD.

As for me and my house, we will serve

You, LORD.  Far be it from us that we should

forsake You, LORD, to serve other gods, for

You brought us out from the house of bondage.

You did all these great things in our sight

and preserved us through all the way in

which we went and among all the peoples

through whose midst we passed.  We will

serve You, LORD, for You are our God.

In Your name, Jesus~”
