Meditate on verse 9.
Jabez was more honorable than
his brothers, and his mother
named him Jabez saying,
"Because I bore him with pain."
Perhaps you have heard of the prayer of Jabez. It is a prayer tucked in the middle of 407 genealogy verses (1 Chronicles 1-9). God wanted the chronicler to include the prayer because a guy named Pain and Sorrow1 was an honorable man (vs. 9-10). Incredible! It doesn’t matter who your family is or what they say about you; you can be an honorable person, whom God hears and answers their prayers.
This chapter has at least five treasure verses to pray. Pray 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 and 38-40 as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, make ___________ and me more honorable.
Oh God, please bless us indeed and
enlarge our border. Let Your hand be with
us and keep from harm that it might not
pain us! God, please grant our requests.
Make us leaders in our families and let
our families’ houses increase greatly.
We seek pasture for our flocks. Please let
us find rich and good pasture. May our
land be broad and quiet and peaceful.
In Your name, Jesus~”
