Joshua 21 - Praying God's Word

Please read Joshua 21.

Meditate on verse 41.

All the cities of the Levites in

 the midst of the possession

of the sons of Israel were forty-eight

cities with their pasture lands.

Unlike the rest of the tribes, God scattered the Levites throughout Israel rather than giving them a portion of land for their inheritance.  God’s reason was two-fold: the Levites did not get an inheritance of land because the LORD was their inheritance (Joshua 13:33), and their ministry was to be a priestly presence among the people, rather than be cloistered in only one geographical section of Israel.

As a Christian, you have the same Levitical ministry.

You also, as living stones, are being built up as

a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to

offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God

through Jesus Christ.  But you are a chosen

race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people

for God’s own possession, so that you may

proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called

you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

—1 Peter 2:5, 9

You are a holy priest; the LORD is your inheritance, and you live where the LORD has placed you to share the good news of Jesus Christ with those around you.

What a high calling!  Confidently fulfill it, praying Joshua 21:44-45 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, as Your priests, give _____________ and me

rest on every side.  Let none of all our

enemies stand before us.  LORD, give all

of our enemies into our hand.  Not one of

Your good promises which You made, LORD,

will fail.  All Your promises will come to pass.

In Your name, Jesus~”
