Joshua 20 - Praying God's Word

Please read Joshua 20.

Meditate on verses 1-2.

Then the LORD spoke to Joshua, saying,

"Speak to the sons of Israel, saying,

'Designate the cities of refuge, of which

I spoke to you through Moses.’”

Six cities were designated in Israel as cities of refuge for a manslayer, one who unintentionally killed someone (v. 3).  The city of refuge gave the manslayer a place of protection from the blood avenger, the one responsible for carrying out vengeance for the murder of a family member.

Do homage to the Son, that He not become

angry, and you perish in the way, for

His wrath may soon be kindled.

How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

—Psalm 2:12

For Christians, Jesus Christ is our city of refuge.  You have the privilege to live in Him, eternally safe from the blood avenger.  It is important for Jesus to be your city of refuge because a day will come when He returns to earth as the blood avenger, and all who are not in Him will perish in His wrath.

Pray for those you love to make Jesus their city of refuge.  Use the words from Joshua 20:2-3 as their faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, You are the City of Refuge.

Please let __________ flee to You.

Become their refuge, Jesus, so You are

not the avenger of blood to them.

In Your name, Jesus~”
