Meditate on verses 13-14.
So Saul died for his trespass which he committed
against the LORD, because of the word of the LORD
which he did not keep; and also because he asked
counsel of a medium, making inquiry of it,
and did not inquire of the LORD.
Therefore, He killed him and turned
the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
What a tragic chapter in Scripture! The king of Israel and his sons died in a single day, with King Saul’s head ignobly paraded by idolatrous Philistines as a battle trophy then placed in the temple of Dagon (v. 10; 1 Samuel 5). The chapter probably made your stomach turn, especially the last two verses: God killed Saul for two reasons—He did not keep God’s Word, and he consulted with a medium (vs. 13-14).
Do not be tempted to take lightly the consequences of disobeying God and His Word. Do not be attracted to teachers who focus on God’s love and forgiveness but ignore His hatred of sin and the life-altering results of abiding in it. Learn from the entire Word of God, both Old and New Testaments, so you can live with Christ in a manner pleasing to Him.
Pray not to experience 1 Chronicles 10:13-14 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, do not let _________ and me die for
trespasses which we commit against You.
Let us keep Your Word, LORD, and let us
never seek counsel from a medium. Let us
always inquire of You. We do not want to be
in a situation where You need to kill us.
Thank You for Your salvation, Jesus~”
