1 Chronicles 3 - Praying God's Word

Please read 1 Chronicles 3.

Meditate on verses 1a and 4.

Now these were the sons of David who

were born to him in Hebron:  Six were born to him

in Hebron, and there he reigned seven years and

six months.  And in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years.

What an important genealogical chapter in God’s Word!  It is the royal line of King David, which will ultimately contain the name King Jesus.  Christ’s genealogy in Matthew 1 contains the same names in the same order as this one in 1 Chronicles 3 (vs. 9-17).  The Matthew genealogy also contains the names of Jesus’ ancestors from Abraham to David’s father, Jesse (Matthew 1:1-6).  And, Matthew contains Jesus’ ancestors after the Babylonian exile starting with Shealtiel’s descendants (Matthew 1:12-16).  The accuracy of God’s Word is amazing and increases our faith to trust His every Word for our lives.

How wonderful God allowed King David to reign for forty years and six months!  I want God to do that for my family—allow us to serve Him for a really long time.  It can be the cry of your heart, too, for your family to serve Jesus all the days of your lives.

Use the words from 1 Chronicles 3:4 to pray over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, You let King David reign seven years

and six months in Hebron.  And, You allowed Him to reign

thirty-three years in Jerusalem.  LORD, please let ___________ and

me serve You for at least that long.

In Your name, Jesus~”
