Meditate on verse 33a.
These are those who served with their sons.
As you observe the genealogies in 1 Chronicles 1-9, you see things that are important to God. For example, all nations descended from Adam (1 Chronicles 1). The nation of Israel descended from Abraham through Isaac (1 Chronicles 1:34). King David descended from the tribe of Judah, and from his lineage will come King Jesus (1 Chronicles 2-4). God gave Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh land on the east side of Jordan (1 Chronicles 5). The tribe of Levi has a special role throughout the 12 tribes of Israel (1 Chronicles 6). The Levites were set apart by God and scattered throughout Israel for the purpose of serving God and His people and teaching His Word.
As a spiritual Levite, your ministry is the same: serve Christ and His Church, proclaiming His excellencies (1 Peter 2:9-10). We love that the Kohathites served with their sons. From the time our children were preschoolers, they served in church: setting out signs, putting up chairs, and handing out bulletins. As they got older, they were part of the praise team: setting up sound equipment, playing instruments, and cleaning up after rehearsals. As they got even older, they started children’s programs, led youth groups, and volunteered where the body of Christ needed help. Today, they and their spouses continue to serve Jesus, and their children are serving the church with their parents.
Ask the LORD to give your family, even your little ones, opportunities to serve in your church. Pray 1 Chronicles 6:33 and 48 as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, let ___________ and me serve You
with our children. Appoint our family for all
the service of Your Church, God.
In Your name, Jesus~”
