Meditate on verses 6.
The LORD is speaking.
“But if the
watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and the people are
not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away in
his iniquity; but his blood I will require from the watchman's hand.”
What a powerful chapter from God’s Word!
First,
the LORD does not take lightly the ministry of being a watchman. He appointed Ezekiel as a watchman over the house of Israel, and He
appointed you a watchman
over your house; God expects you to faithfully
give your loved ones His warnings and
messages (v. 7).
Secondly,
what an encouraging chapter about God’s forgiveness! The people knew they were
rotting in their transgressions and did not think they could survive (v. 10).
God’s message was: “Turn from your evil ways and live! If you turn from your
sin and practice justice and righteousness, none of the sins you committed will
be remembered against you” (vs. 11- 16). Incredible!
Thirdly, the chapter ends with a sad description of how people heard God’s Word;
the verses could describe some who attend church today (vs. 30- 33).
They hear a message but refuse to do God’s Words because “their heart goes after their own gain” (v. 31). They only hear “a sensual
song by one who has a beautiful voice and plays well on an instrument” (v. 32). “LORD,
convict us!”
There
are many verses to pray. Start by using the Words from Ezekiel 33:22-24 as a
faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, You
opened my mouth; I am no longer speechless.
Your Word has come to me; may I speak it
and pray it
into the waste places where people need to hear.
For the sake of
Your name, Jesus~”
