Meditate on verses 3b and 7a.
O Tyre, you
have said, “I am perfect in beauty.”
Your sail was
of fine embroidered linen from Egypt
so that it
became your distinguishing mark.
Tyre was a beautiful, wealthy
port city on the Mediterranean Sea in southern Lebanon. The people had great
trade relations with many countries and cities; over 30 of them are mentioned
in this chapter. In fact, it was King Hiram of Tyre who supplied King Solomon
with the cedars of Lebanon for building
the LORD’s temple in Jerusalem (1 Kings 5). But, Tyre
not only gloated over the fall of
Jerusalem, the city was filled with
so much pride she claimed to be
“perfect in beauty” (Ezekiel 26:2; 27:3). The LORD’s response to such arrogance
was:
"Your
wealth, your wares, your merchandise,
your sailors and your pilots, your repairers
of seams,
your dealers in
merchandise and all your men of war
who are in you,
with all your company that is in your midst,
will fall into
the heart of the seas on the day of your overthrow.”
—Ezekiel 27:27
God
hates pride (Proverbs 8:13)! Ask Him to remove all arrogance from you so He can
be the distinguishing mark on your life.
Use the
words from Ezekiel 27:3 and 7 to pray over yourself and those for whom you
stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, only You
are perfect in beauty!
Please be the
distinguishing
mark on ____________ and my life.
For the sake of
Your name, Jesus~”
