Meditate on verse 16.
He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son
of John, do you love Me?”
He said to Him, “Yes,
Lord; You know that I love You.”
He said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.”
Peter needed miraculous restoration. Rather than rebuke Peter for thrice disavowing Him, Jesus commanded him three
times to shepherd His sheep
(John 18:15-27; 21:15-17). Christ
knew that caring for others was a
great prescription for spiritual and emotional healing. Peter needed to tend the lambs coming to faith in Christ rather than wallow in self-condemnation and
self-loathing for past mistakes.
If you are plagued by past sins and feel
disqualified to serve the LORD, repent and hear Jesus say to you, “Follow Me!”
(v. 19). Be quick to obey everything He asks you to do, knowing He needs you,
too, to tend His flock.
Pray to obey Christ’s commands
in John 21:15-17, 19, and 22.
“LORD, You know that I love You.
Help me to tend Your lambs; shepherd Your sheep,
and tend Your sheep as I follow You.
In Your name, Jesus~”
