John 11 - Praying God's Word

Please read John 11.

Meditate on verse 39a.

Jesus said, “Remove the stone.”

Jesus commanded Martha and Mary to remove the stone, and rather  than immediately obeying their LORD, Martha argued that removing the stone would be stinky. Jesus replied that obedient belief results in seeing God’s glory. The sisters removed the stone, and Jesus revealed His glory (vs. 39- 44). I wonder what would have happened if they had refused?
What about you? What has Jesus commanded you that you are making excuses not to obey?
“Forgive that person.”
“But God, what they did to me stinks.”
“Discipline your children in the fear of the LORD.”
“But God, parenting is stinking hard.”
“Go and serve in the ministry I have called you to do.”
“But God, what if I stink at what I do.”
Jesus says, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” (v. 40)
Pray John 11:39-40 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, You have given the command to remove the stone.
Help ________ and me stop making stinking excuses.
Help us believe!  We want to see Your glory, God!
In Your name, Jesus~”
