Matthew 19 - Praying God's Word

Please read Matthew 19.

Meditate on verse 6.  Jesus is speaking.

"So, they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore

God has joined together, let no man separate."

Marriage was created by God, 6,000 years ago, with His blessing:

“For this reason, a man shall leave his father and his

mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”

—Genesis 2:24

Marriage between one man and one woman unites them physically, spiritually, and emotionally.  Marriage is a reminder of God’s miracle of creating the first woman, Eve, from Adam’s rib (Genesis 2:22).  Marriage is the picture of Christ’s unity with His church and His great love for her (Ephesians 5:31-32).  Marriage is the picture of a Christian intimately knowing Jesus Christ (John 6:69).  No wonder Satan loves divorce, and God hates it (Malachi 2:16).  For divorce sends an unbelieving world a false picture of creation, Christianity, Christ, and His church.

Obey Christ’s command not to separate a husband and wife.  There is so much more at stake than one’s “happiness.”  Your choice to stay in your marriage shows the world Jesus never leaves or forsakes those who know Him (John 14:1-3).  God is faithful; trust Him with your marriage and the marriages of those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62;6-7), by praying Matthew 19:4-6 and 8.

“LORD, from the beginning, You created us male

and female.  Because You created us male and female

You said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father

and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall

become one flesh.’  So, God, _________ and I are no longer

two, but one flesh.  What therefore You have joined

together, let no one separate—including me, LORD.

Please remove our hardness of heart!

For the sake of Your name, Jesus~”
