Matthew 16 - Praying God's Word

Please read Matthew 16.

Meditate on verses 16 and 22-23.

Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying,

"God forbid it, LORD! This shall never happen to You."

But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan!

You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not

setting your mind on God's interests, but man's."

Do you ever have Peter days?  One moment you speak the very truths of God, and the next moment you say something regrettable.  Peter, a follower of Jesus Christ, declared who Jesus is, the Christ, the Son of the living God, but when Jesus revealed His purpose as the Son of the Living God, Peter cried out, “God forbid!” (vs. 21-22).  Think about it; if Peter’s prayer for God to forbid Jesus from suffering and dying on the cross had been answered the way Peter wanted, where would you be right now?

Read the meditation verses again.  Are the things you say and the things you pray based on God’s desires?  If God answered your prayers the way you hope, would it cause you to stumble and not be in God’s will?  Check your heart’s desires; make sure they are God’s desires and not Satan’s.

Pray Matthew 16:16 and 22-24 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

God, forbid me to follow You as a Satan, as a stumbling block to You.

Help me set my mind on Your interests, not man’s.

Jesus, I wish to come after You, so I will obey Your command to deny myself,

take up my cross, and follow You.   Please help ___________ do the same.

In Your name, Jesus~”
