Please read Matthew 14.
Meditate on Jesus’ commands in verse 27.
Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.
Do you ever feel like you just don’t get a break? Jesus needed a break. His cousin had been executed, and Jesus wanted time alone to grieve his death (vs. 12-13). But a bunch of people followed him to his “secluded” spot. When Jesus saw them, instead of being upset about His disrupted quiet time. He felt compassion for them (v. 14). After feeding the whole group, He attempted again to have time alone, but He noticed His disciples were in a fix, out on an angry sea, so He again selflessly left His quiet place and walked out on the waves to quiet His beloved disciples (vs. 22-27).
Miraculously, Jesus constantly does the same for you; He comes to you in the midst of your choppiness and says, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid” (vs. 27). As you think about that command, consider His other commands in this chapter and how He wants you to obey them:
· You give them something to eat (v. 16).
· Bring them here to Me (v. 18).
· Sit down on the grass (v. 19).
· Get into the boat (v. 22).
· Come! (v. 29)
Pray Matthew 14:14, 16, 18-19, 22, 27, and 29 as a prayer of commitment as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, make me like You. Help me feel compassion for people.
Let me bring healing; let me give them something to eat.
I bring You what I have; LORD, please use it!
I want to sit down on the grass with You.
I want to get into the boat and go wherever You lead.
I take courage because I am with You; I will not be afraid.
LORD, I come to You in Your name, Jesus~”
