Matthew 17 - Praying God's Word

Please read Matthew 17.

Meditate on verses 7-8 and 15-18.

And Jesus came to them and touched them and

said, "Get up, and do not be afraid."

And lifting up their eyes, they saw no

one except Jesus Himself alone.

When they came to the crowd, a man

came up to Jesus, falling on his knees before Him and

saying, "LORD, have mercy on my son, for he is a lunatic and

is very ill; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.

I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him."

And Jesus answered and said, "You unbelieving

and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you?

How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me."

And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came

out of him, and the boy was cured at once.

Notice the three commands in these verses and the results of obedience.  “Get up.  Do not be afraid.  Bring him here to Me” (vs. 7, 17).

When Peter, James, and John got up, their fear was gone and all they could see was Jesus.  When the distraught father brought his boy to Christ, Jesus told the demon to get out, and the boy was healed immediately.

We desperately need to obey these three commands.  Get up.  Do not be afraid.  Bring your problems to Jesus.  So many people lie on beds of depression, fearing and worrying.  We need Jesus!

As a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7), pray for yourself and those you love to obey Jesus’ commands in Matthew 17:7-8 and 17-18.

“LORD, help ___________ and me get up and not be afraid.

As we do, give us eyes only for You, Jesus.

I bring ____________ to You.  Rebuke our

demons and cure us at once.

In Your name, Jesus~”
