Please read Nahum 3.

Meditate on verses 1 and 4.
Woe to the bloody city, completely full of lies
and pillage; her prey never departs.
All because of the many harlotries of the
harlot, the charming one, the mistress
of sorceries, who sells nations by her
harlotries and families by her sorceries.
Nineveh was a violent, evil mess. How quickly the people forgot God’s Word preached by Jonah:
Then the people of Nineveh believed in God.
When the word reached the king of Nineveh,
he issued a proclamation and it said,
"Let men call on God earnestly that each may turn from
his wicked way and from the violence which is in his hands.”
When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their
wicked way, then God relented concerning the
calamity which He had declared He would bring
upon them. And He did not do it.
—Jonah 3:5a, 6a, 7a, 8b, 10
Sadly, 100 years later, the Ninevites laid God’s Word aside, exchanging conviction of sin for the charms of sensual unfaithfulness (v. 4). God was furious and promised to expose their disgrace and throw their filthiness back in their face, making them a disgusting spectacle (vs. 5-6).
Think about your life and the life of your nation. Was there a time when God’s Word impacted you more than it does today, or does it convict you more now than ever? Learn from Nineveh. Do not be deceived by the world’s delights.
Use the words from Nahum 3:18-19 to pray for yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, wake-up our shepherds, raise up our
nobles, and gather our people. Only
You can bring relief for our breakdown and
cure our wound. LORD, make us
stop continually passing on our evil.
Save us before it is too late.
In Your name, Jesus~”
