Meditate on verse 7.
God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but
of power and love and discipline.
Paul’s first letter to Timothy was filled with instructions for leading the church in Ephesus. A few years passed; now Paul’s beloved son in the faith needed a letter of personal encouragement.
Even a faithful bond-servant of Christ gets discouraged at times, so although Paul was close to death, imprisoned in Rome, and rejected by many of his friends, he wrote this letter to exhort and encourage Timothy.
There are at least 30 exhortations from Paul to Timothy in this letter, commands to be strong and diligent, to remember Jesus, to do certain things and to avoid doing other things. They are wise words from a concerned spiritual father, and they are words from a loving Heavenly Father to you.
No matter what is happening in your life, remember God saved you and gave you a holy calling (v. 9). Let God’s Words encourage you today.
Pray 2 Timothy 1:7-9 and 14 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, You have not given ________ and me
a spirit of timidity, but of power and love
and discipline. Let us not be ashamed of
Your testimony, LORD. Let us not forget
You saved us and called us with a holy
calling, not according to our works, but
according to Your own purpose and grace
granted to us in You, Christ Jesus, from
all eternity. Holy Spirit, You dwell in us. Please
guard the treasure entrusted to us.
In Your name, Jesus~”
