2 Chronicles 4 - Praying God's Word

Please read 2 Chronicles 4.

Meditate on verses 2a and 6b.

Also, he made the cast metal sea.

The sea was for the priests to wash in.

Picture the giant sea, a huge bronze tub holding approximately 12,000 gallons of water elevated on the backs of twelve bronze oxen.1 Its purpose was for cleansing the priests so they could perform their priestly duties in the presence of God, offering sacrifices on behalf of the people and caring for the temple.

In the book of Revelation, John describes a new heaven and a new earth, where “there is no longer any sea” (Revelation 21:1).  Perhaps, John meant this temple sea that was required for coming into God’s presence.  Think about these verses:

These are the ones who come out of the great

tribulation, and they have washed their robes

and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

For this reason, they are before the throne of God;

and they serve Him day and night in His temple.

Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that

they may have the right to the tree of life and may

enter by the gates into the city.

—Revelation 7:14b-15a; 22:14

As a Christian, you are made clean by the blood of Christ.  You are constantly in God’s presence because of Jesus.  There is no longer any sea because Jesus cleanses you of all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

As a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7), use the words from 2 Chronicles 4:6 to pray for those who need to be cleansed by Jesus.

“LORD, please be the sea for ___________ to

wash in and become one of Your

 priests (Revelation 1:6).

In Your name, Jesus~”
