Meditate on these phrases from verses 1 and 3.
Who were to prophesy with lyres, harps, and cymbals…
Who prophesied in giving thanks and praising the LORD…
Have you thought about worship leaders and church musicians as prophets? King David set apart musicians to prophesy with their instruments and voices.
This is an important chapter for us as worshipers and leaders of worship. Think about the songs you hear, play, and sing. Do the music and lyrics correctly declare Truth about God? Analyze the songs, making certain they are Biblical, for God hates false prophecy.
An appalling and horrible thing has happened
in the land: The prophets prophesy falsely, and
the priests rule on their own authority;
and My people love it so! But what will you do at the
end of it? Beware of the false prophets, who come to
you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
—Jeremiah 5:30-31; Matthew 7:15
Worship leaders, you are Bible teachers, and God holds you accountable for the words being sung, making sure they are Scripturally sound. Worshipers, test the prophets, making sure the words you sing are not contrary to God’s Word (1 John 4:1).
Use the words from 1 Chronicles 25:1 and 3 to pray over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, set apart ___________ and me to prophesy according
to Your Word and for Your service with our instruments—lyres,
harps, cymbals, etc. Let us prophesy in giving
thanks and praising You, LORD.
In Your name, Jesus~”
