1 Chronicles 24 - Praying God's Word

Please read 1 Chronicles 24.

Meditate on verse 2.

But Nadab and Abihu died

before their father and had

no sons.  So Eleazar and

Ithamar served as priests.

It is important to remember the story of Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu:

Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron,

 took their respective firepans, and

after putting fire in them, placed incense

on it and offered strange fire before

the LORD, which He had not commanded

them.  And fire came out from the

presence of the LORD and consumed

them, and they died before the LORD.

—Leviticus 10:1-2

Nadab and Abihu made their own way for entering God’s presence, and as priests, led others with them down their deadly path.  When they tried to approach God with strange fire, He consumed them with His fire for blatant disregard of His Word.

God still takes seriously how one enters His presence—no one comes to the Father except through Jesus Christ (John 14:6).  All other ways are like Nadab and Abihu’s strange fire, leading to death.

As a Christian, and therefore a priest of God (1 Peter 2:9), know God’s Word and teach correctly the way of salvation through Jesus Christ alone (Acts 4:8-12).  As a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7), use the words from 1 Chronicles 24:2 and 4 to pray for yourself and those you love to be faithful priests.

“LORD, make _________ and me Your faithful

priests.  Do not let us be a Nadab

and Abihu, doing things leading to death.

Make us Your choice ones, who

lead according to Your Word.  May

more choice people be found to lead.

For the sake of Your name, Jesus~”
