Romans 14 - Praying God's Word

Please read Romans 14.

Meditate on verse 8.

For if we live, we live for the LORD, or
if we die, we die for the LORD;
 therefore, whether we live or
die, we are the LORD’s.

Paul addressed issues dividing the body of Christ in this chapter. Arguments about foods to eat or not eat, beverages to drink or not drink, and which day is best for worshiping God tear down the church rather than build it up. Paul drew the line with this principle: “So then, we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another. Do not tear down the work of God for the sake of food” (vs. 19-20).
Is something dividing your faith community that is really not that important? If people are upset with each other about a non-essential thing, then they are not paying attention to God and building up His people.
Here is the antidote for division within the body of Christ: As a believer, your life is now and forever intertwined with the LORD Jesus Christ. You no longer live for yourself; you live for Him; therefore, live in such a way that you do not hurt the faith of a fellow Christian for whom Christ died (v. 15).
Pray Romans 14:7-9 and 15 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, please help ____ and me not
 live for ourselves, and
 not die for ourselves, for if we live, we
live for You, or if we die, we die for You;
therefore, whether we live or
 die, we are Yours, LORD.
You died and lived again, so You are
 LORD of the dead and of the living.
Help us walk in love and not
 destroy those for whom You died.
For the sake of Your name, Jesus ~”
