Meditate on verses 17-18a.
But if some of the branches were broken off,
and you, being a wild olive,
were grafted in among them, and became partaker
with them of the rich root of the olive tree,
do not be arrogant toward the branches.
The first eleven chapters of Romans describe the great things God has done for salvation to work. Chapter 12 will begin with how Christians should live as a result of all God’s work. Chapter 11 finishes the discussion on God’s heart for the Jewish people and the wonderful opportunity Gentiles have to be grafted into the olive tree. Therefore, those of us who are Christians and not from a Jewish heritage should be both proud of our new roots and humbled by God’s choice to allow us into the family.
The chapter ends with this powerful confession of God’s greatness and trust in Him (vs. 33-36). Pray it with praise to your all-powerful God!
“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the
wisdom and knowledge of You, God!
How unsearchable are Your judgments
and unfathomable Your ways!
For who has known Your mind, LORD,
or who became Your counselor?
Or who has first given to You that
it might be paid back to You again?
For from You and through You
and to You are all things.
To You be the glory forever. Amen.”
