Titus 1 - Praying God's Word

Please read Titus 1.

Meditate on verse 16.

They profess to know God, but by their deeds, they deny Him,
being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.

Paul gave Titus the important task of appointing elders in the church at Crete. They had to be Godly men with the 18 characteristics listed in verses 6-9. The job called for such stringent qualifications because there were rebellious people in the church, upsetting entire families with their deceptive teaching (vs. 10-11). The elders were to severely reprove these ungodly people, so they might be sound in the faith (v. 13).
Our churches today need Godly elders leading in Christlikeness and ensuring the rebellious and non-believers are not allowed to teach. Pray for your church to obey the sound doctrine of God’s Word and put people into leadership who conform to Godliness.
As their faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7), pray for the people of your church not to be those described in Titus 1:10-16.

“LORD, do not let the people in my church be rebellious,
empty talkers, and deceivers who must be silenced.
Do not let our teachers upset whole families
by teaching things they should not for the sake of sordid gain.
Remove all false-prophets.  Let no one prejudiciously
call a people-group ‘liars, evil beasts, and lazy gluttons.’
Give our elders the courage to reprove severely when needed,
so we may all be sound in the faith.
Do not let us pay attention to myths and commandments
of men who turn us away from the truth.
Make us pure; do not let us be defiled and unbelieving.
Keep our minds and consciences from being defiled.
We profess to know You, God;
may our deeds never deny You.
Do not let us be detestable, disobedient,
and worthless for any good deed.
For the sake of Your church and Your name, Jesus~”
