Meditate on verse 5b.
Arise, bless the LORD your God forever and ever!
O may Your glorious name be blessed and exalted above all blessing and praise!
The Israelites stood listening to God’s Word for six hours; they were so greatly impacted, they spent another six hours confessing their sins and worshiping God. Thankfully, Nehemiah recorded some of their words, so you can use them for confession and worship.
Pray Nehemiah 9:5-6, 17, 20, and 31-33 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“Bless You, LORD our God, forever and ever!
O may Your glorious name be blessed
and exalted above all blessing and praise!
You alone are the LORD. You have made the heavens,
the heaven of heavens with all their host, the earth
and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them.
You give life to all of them, and the heavenly host
bows down before You. You are the LORD.
Forgive _________ and me when we refuse to listen
and do not remember Your wondrous deeds
which You have performed among us.
Forgive us when we become stubborn.
You are a God of forgiveness, gracious and
compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness;
You do not forsake us. You, in Your great compassion,
do not forsake us in the wilderness.
You give Your good Spirit to instruct us.
In Your great compassion, You do not make an end of us or forsake us,
for You are a great and compassionate God.
Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God,
who keeps covenant and lovingkindness, do not let
all the hardship seem insignificant before You, which has come upon us.
However, You are just in all that has come upon us;
for You have dealt faithfully, but we have acted wickedly.
Please forgive us in Your name, Jesus~”
