Meditate on verse 9.
Do not be eager in your heart to be angry,
for anger resides in the bosom of fools.
Are you an angry person? Is your first reaction to get mad at situations contrary to your desires? Do people tiptoe around you, or go to great lengths to keep you happy, just so they do not have to experience your wrath?
Be honest with yourself and God. Let the Holy Spirit convict you of any area of your life where you answered “yes” to those questions. Let God’s Word bring conviction, repentance, and healing to you.
A quick-tempered man acts foolishly.
—Proverbs 14:17a
This you know, my beloved brethren.
But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;
for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.
—James 1:19-20
Cease from anger and forsake wrath;
do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.
—Psalm 37:8
Pray Ecclesiastes 7:9 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, do not let _______ and me be eager in our hearts to be angry,
for anger resides in the bosoms of fools. We do not want to be fools.
In Your name, Jesus~”
