1 Thessalonians 4 - Praying God's Word

Please read 1 Thessalonians 4.
Meditate on verse 1.

Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the LORD Jesus,
 that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk
 and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more.

Twice in this chapter, Paul urges believers to “excel still more” in their walk with Jesus (vs. 1, 10). He didn’t want them to stay as baby Christians; he wanted their walk to be abundant and excellent in Christ.
Three times in this chapter, Paul talks about the “sanctification” of believers (vs. 3, 4, 7). It is God’s will for every Christian to become more and more sanctified—more and more purified—as they walk with the LORD. You cannot help but become pure and holy when you walk with Jesus—talking to Him, reading His Word, and fellowshipping with other believers. Sanctification—growing up in Christ to become more and more like Him—is a miraculous process, and it is God’s will for you to excel at it.

Pray 1 Thessalonians 4:7-10 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, You have not called _________ and me for the
purpose of impurity but for sanctification.
Thank You for giving us the Holy Spirit;
 we will not reject You, God.
 Teach us how to love one another
 and help us to excel still more.
In Your name, Jesus~”
