2 Chronicles 23 - Praying God's Word

Meditate on verses 4-5.

 

This is the thing which you shall do: one third of you,

of the priests and Levites who come in on the

sabbath, shall be gatekeepers, and one third shall

be at the king's house, and a third at the Gate of

the Foundation; and all the people shall

be in the courts of the house of the LORD.

 

Jehoiada armed the priests and Levites and made them gatekeepers.  Their job was to keep evil out of the palace and the temple, so 7-year-old Joash could be crowned king, and his wicked grandmother, Athaliah, deposed.  Recall baby Joash was hidden in the temple for six years from his murdering grandmother (2 Chronicles 22:10-12).  Athaliah was killed, and the people of Judah freed from evil to devote themselves to God (vs. 12-16).

 

Notice these Levitical gatekeepers were stationed at the palace, the temple, and the Foundation Gate, thereby protecting the seat of government, worship, and the foundation of society from evil attack.  God has placed you in the same position of gatekeeper, arming you with His Word, so you can protect your government, church, and the foundation of your family and society from evil as you proclaim the truth of God’s Word. 

 

Pray for God to make you a courageous gatekeeper using the words from 2 Chronicles 23:4-6 as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

 

“LORD, as Your spiritual priests and

Levites (1 Peter 2:9), ___________ and I will be

Your gatekeepers.  Help us be faithful at

 the king’s house, at the Gate of the

Foundation, and in the courts of Your house, LORD. 

May all the people be in the courts of Your house. 

Make us holy and help us keep Your charge.

According to Your Word and because of Your name, Jesus~”
