Meditate on verse 2.
He did right in the sight of the LORD, according
to all that his father Uzziah had done; however, he
did not enter the temple of the LORD.
But the people continued acting corruptly.
King Jotham did not make the same mistake as his father Uzziah, who presumptuously entered the holy place of the temple to burn incense (2 Chronicles 26:16-18). Uzziah was furious when rebuked by God and refused to repent. God punished his rebellion by inflicting him with leprosy for the rest of his life (2 Chronicles 26:19-21). Just imagine the impact this had on young Jotham, who probably was not allowed to go near his diseased father. I wonder if Jotham feared even being close to the temple because of what happened to his father. What a different ending the story of Uzziah and Jotham might have if Uzziah had yielded to God instead of his proud heart (2 Chronicles 26:16)!
Prayerfully consider your actions and their impact on others. What do your children, grandchildren, other family members, and friends learn from your attitudes and behaviors toward Christ and His church? Think about the eternal consequences and pray 2 Chronicles 27:2 and 6 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, please help __________ and me do right
in Your sight, according to all You desire.
LORD, we will enter to worship with Your
church. Please let Your people not act corruptly.
Let us become mighty because we order
our ways before You, LORD our God.
In Your name, Jesus~”
