Meditate on verses 35b-36.
Thus, the service of the house of
the LORD was established again.
Then Hezekiah and all the people
rejoiced over what God had
prepared for the people, because
the thing came about suddenly.
The temple was a neglected mess. With doors shut and lights out, no incense or burnt offerings were offered in the holy place, and God was furious (vs. 7-8). Perhaps no one dared go back into the holy place after King Uzziah was smitten there with leprosy over 32 years before (2 Chronicles 26:16-21). Thankfully, King Hezekiah realized he and his people needed to get back on track with God, so he called for a clean-up campaign, and in 16 days, the job was done. Sacrifices and worship were once again offered in God’s temple (vs. 10-29).
Think about your life and the life of your church. Are you part of the body of Christ or did something happen a long time ago that made you stop meeting with other Christians? What about your church? Is unbiblical teaching corrupting the flock of God?
This chapter is rich with practicality for walking with Jesus. Let the LORD clean and establish you in Him. Then be ready because He will suddenly reveal what He has prepared for you and your church (v. 36). Exciting!
Pray 2 Chronicles 29:5, 24, 30, and 36 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, consecrate ___________ and me; consecrate
Your church. Help us carry the uncleanness out of
Your holy place. Purge us by Your blood, Jesus, to atone
for all our sins. We sing praises with joy and bow down
and worship You. We rejoice over what
You have prepared for us. Make us ready because
Your thing will come about suddenly.
In Your name, Jesus~”
