2 Chronicles 28 - Praying God's Word

Please read 2 Chronicles 28.

Meditate on verse 19.

For the LORD humbled Judah because

of Ahaz king of Israel, for he had brought

about a lack of restraint in Judah

and was very unfaithful to the LORD.

What a sobering meditation verse!  The LORD humbled an entire nation because of the lack of restraint brought about by an unfaithful leader.

The Hebrew word translated as “lack of restraint” is also used in these verses:1

Now when Moses saw that the people were out of control

for Aaron had let them get out of control

—Exodus 32:25a

Poverty and shame will come to him who neglects discipline.

—Proverbs 13:18a

Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained,

but happy is he who keeps the law.

—Proverbs 29:18

We live in a world lacking restraint.  False teachers encourage others to run the Bible through a sieve, filtering out parts which they feel no longer apply.  Such unfaithfulness to God and His Word is abhorrent.  Examine your life for areas lacking restraint and pray 2 Chronicles 28:11, 19, and 22 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, ________ and I do not want Your

burning anger to be against us.

You have humbled us because of our lack of

restraint and being very unfaithful to You.

In this time of our distress, do not let us

 become even more unfaithful.

Forgive us, LORD.  Restrain us by Your Spirit

and You Word.  Make us faithful.

In Your name, Jesus~”
