Psalm 118 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 118.

Meditate on verse 24.

This is the day which the LORD has made;

let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118 is probably the hymn Jesus and His disciples sang after drinking the last cup of wine at the Passover, the cup representing Christ’s blood to be poured out for the forgiveness of sins (Matthew 5:28)1  Can you imagine Jesus singing these words, knowing He is the psalm’s fulfillment?

·      The Gate the righteous enter to come to God (v. 20; John 10:7, 9)

·      Salvation (v. 21; Luke 2:25-30)

·      The Stone the builders rejected who became the chief corner stone (v. 22; 1 Peter 2:6-7)

·      The blessed One, coming in the name of the LORD (v. 26; John 12:12-13)

·      The Light of the world (v. 27; John 8:12)

·      The Passover festival sacrifice (v. 27; 1 Corinthians 5:7)

As Christians, we rejoice in each day the LORD makes, thankful for our salvation through Him.

As a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7), start this New Year praising Jesus with Psalm 118.  Verses 1-5 and 24 are printed below to get you started.

“Thank You, LORD, for You are good;

Your lovingkindness is everlasting.

Oh, let ________ say, ‘Your lovingkindnes is everlasting.’

Oh, let everyone in my house say, ‘Your

lovingkindness is everlasting.’

I fear You, LORD, and I say,

 ‘Your lovingkindness is everlasting.’

From my distress, I called upon You, LORD.

You answered me and set me in a large place.

LORD, this is the day which You have made;

I will rejoice and be glad in it.

In Your name, Jesus~”
