Meditate on verse 19.
For who is our hope or joy or crown of
exultation? Is it not even you, in the presence of
our LORD Jesus at His coming?
Prior to coming to Thessalonica, Paul was beaten and put in prison at Philippi for sharing God’s Word (Acts 16:11-24). After his miraculous release, he made his way to this city, where he reasoned with the Thessalonians from the Scriptures, explaining Jesus is the Christ. The result was the same as at Philippi; some were persuaded to follow Jesus, and some persecuted him (Acts 17:1-9).
Why would Paul continue to share God’s Word amid such opposition? There was no doubt in Paul’s mind that God’s Word applied to one’s life changes that life for eternity. And, when Christ returns, He will bring with Him those who have believed in Him. Paul’s crown of exultation is those who believe in Jesus because he shared God’s Word with them.
Will you have a crown of exultation when Christ returns?
Pray 1 Thessalonians 2:12-13 and 19 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, please help _______ and me walk in
a manner worthy of You who calls us
into Your own kingdom and glory.
Please let ___________ receive Your Word which
they have heard. Let them accept it, not
as the word of men, but for what it
really is, Your Word, God, which performs
its work in those who believe.
May they be our hope and joy and
crown of exultation in Your
presence, LORD Jesus, when You come.
For the glory of Your name~”
