1 Thessalonians 5 - Praying God's Word

Please read 1 Thessalonians 5.

Meditate on verses 1-2 and 4.

Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren,

you have no need of anything to be written to you.

For you yourselves know full well that the day

of the LORD will come just like a thief in the night.

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that

the day would overtake you like a thief.

The Christians in Thessalonica knew about the day of the LORD, but Paul reminded them of some key truths (v. 1).  Observe what a contrast the day will be for believers and nonbelievers:

CHRISTIANS AND THE DAY OF THE LORD             NONCHRISTIANS AND

                                                                                         THE DAY OF THE LORD

*Will not overtake them like a thief (v. 4)               *Comes just like a thief

                                                                                               in the night (v. 2)

*Light and day (v. 5)                                                      *Night and darkness (v. 5)

*Alert and sober (v. 6)                                                   *Asleep and drunk (v. 7)

*Salvation through Jesus Christ (v. 9)                       *Destruction and wrath

                                                                                                  (vs. 3, 9)

Who do you know that the day of the LORD would overtake them like a thief in the night?  Invite them to join you under the column on the left.

Pray 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“God of peace, sanctify __________ and me entirely

and may our spirit and soul and body be preserved

complete, without blame at Your coming, LORD Jesus Christ.

LORD, You are faithful who calls us, and You will bring it to pass.

In Your name, Jesus~”
