Meditate on verses 1-2.
Now we request you, brethren, with
regard to the coming of our LORD Jesus Christ
and our gathering together to Him,
that you not be quickly shaken from your
composure or be disturbed either by a
spirit or a message or a letter as if from us,
to the effect that the day of the LORD has come.
The believers in Thessalonica needed reassurance. False rumors floated around that the day of the LORD had come. The believers feared they missed being gathered to Him, and now faced God’s wrath and destruction (1Thessalonians 4:17; 5:3, 9). Paul reassured them of what must occur prior to that day. Keep these truths in mind, so you can correctly recognize the coming of the day of the LORD.
Before the day of the LORD, two things will happen. The apostasy, a worldwide rebellion and falling away from the faith, occurs (v. 3; 1 Timothy 4:1-3; 2 Timothy 3:1-5; 4:3-4). And, the man of lawlessness, the son of destruction, is revealed (v. 3; Daniel 11:36-45). This man of sin acts on behalf of Satan, exalting himself as God and taking his seat in God’s temple to be worshiped (vs. 4, 8-10; Revelation 13:1-6).
Look around. Do you see any evidence the day of the LORD may be near?
Pray for those who need to receive the love of the truth before it is too late, using the words from 2 Thessalonians 2:10 and 13-14 as their faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, please let ___________ receive the love
of the truth to be saved. God, choose them for
salvation. Sanctify them by the Spirit and faith
in the truth. Call them through Your Gospel,
that they may gain Your glory,
By Your name, LORD Jesus Christ~”
