Job 34 - Praying God's Word

Please read Job 34.  Elihu is speaking.

Meditate on verses 14-15.

If He (God) should determine to do so, if He should gather

to Himself His spirit and His breath, all flesh would

perish together, and man would return to dust.

The greatest temptation in the midst of suffering is to fix your eyes on yourself and your situation instead of fixing your eyes on the LORD.  God used Elihu to turn Job’s attention back to Him.  Picture what is described in the meditation verses.  If God were to suck in His breath and His spirit, we would all physically die.  That is sobering.

Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life,

and man became a living being.

—Genesis 2:7

Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and stretched

them out, Who spread out the earth and its offspring,

Who gives breath to the people on it and spirit

to those who walk in it, "I am the LORD…”

—Isaiah 42:5-6a

God is the LORD.  He is LORD of all the living, and He is LORD of you and your situation.  Trust Him and pray Job 34:31-32 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, __________ and I have borne chastisement.

Do not let us offend anymore.

Teach us what we do not see.  If we have done

iniquity, help us not do it again.

For the sake of Your name, Jesus~”
