Please read Isaiah 58.
Meditate on verses 6 and 8.
Is this not the fast which I
choose,
to loosen the bonds of
wickedness,
to undo the bands of the
yoke,
and to let the oppressed go
free
and break every yoke?
Then your light will break out like the dawn,
and your recovery will
speedily spring forth;
and your righteousness will
go before you.
The glory of the Lord will
be your rear guard.
During this
season of Lent, you may have given up something in remembrance and honor of
your LORD sacrificing everything, so you can be in an intimate, forever
relationship with Him. Isaiah 58 gives
the guidelines for fasting (giving up) something to the LORD.
God wants you to give up actions and attitudes that keep
those around you in spiritual and emotional bondage and chains. Examine yourself. Do the words of your mouth give life to your
family or do they cause grief? Do your
actions show others the love of Christ, or do they bind others to do your
selfish will just to keep you from getting mad and upset with them? Are you letting Christ live and speak through
you?
Appropriate fasting in the eyes of God is not giving up
chocolate for 40 days. The fast that the
LORD desires is permanently giving up the sin in your life, so you have the
freedom to give life to those around you.
Pray Isaiah 58:13-14.
“LORD, help me to
turn my foot from doing my own pleasure.
I want to desist from
my own ways,
seeking my own
pleasure, and speaking my own word.
LORD, I want to
delight in You.
Thank You for Your
promise that when I do, You will make me ride on the heights of the earth and
feed on Your heritage.
Thank You that Your
mouth has spoken this.
In Your Name, Jesus.”
