Meditate on verse 19.
The blood avenger himself shall put the murderer to death;
he shall put him to death when he meets him.
Consider how the LORD Jesus Christ fulfilled this chapter, being both the city of refuge and the blood avenger. He is the blood avenger; His death and resurrection defeated the murderer Satan whose end is eternity in the Lake of Fire (John 8:44; Revelation 20:10). Jesus is the city of refuge. Anyone who runs to Him will not die in their sins. Jesus took the punishment for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:1-2). And just like the manslayer had to flee to the city of refuge in order not to be killed by the blood avenger, every person must choose to flee to Jesus as their city of refuge, so they will not face Him as the blood avenger in death (Proverbs 18:10; Revelation 20:11-15).
Thank Jesus for being your City of Refuge. Pray for those who need to make Him their City of Refuge, so they do not face Him as the Blood Avenger. Use the words from Numbers 35:26-28 and 34 to pray as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD Jesus, You are ________ and my City of Refuge.
Let us never go beyond You. We do not want You
to find us as the Blood Avenger.
Please let _______ make You their City of Refuge.
LORD, dwell in our midst.
In Your name, Jesus~”
