Please read Genesis 4.
Meditate on verse 7.
If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up?
And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door,
and its desire is for you, but you must master it.
This is an
important passage of Scripture. In Genesis 4, God engaged Cain so he would not
kill his brother Abel. Cain needed to hear God, subdue his anger, and find out
why his sacrifice was not accepted by God. God was providing a way of escape
for Cain from the temptation to kill Abel.
God provides
you a way of escape with every temptation as well (1 Corinthians 10:13). God
also gives you free will. He allows you to choose. You can obey God, or you can
obey sin. The course your life takes is your choice. God will not force you to
love and follow Him. You have the privilege of choosing.
Sin desires
to control your life. Satan wants you to choose sin to be your master. God says
when you master sin rather than allowing sin to master you, your countenance
will be lifted up, you will be happy, and you will do well.
Remember the
father of lies says sin will make you happy. God says mastering sin will make
you happy. What will you choose? Do you choose to serve Satan and sin, or do
you choose to serve God?
Pray Genesis
4:7 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful
watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD,
sin is crouching at the door of ________ and me.
Its desire is for us. LORD, help us master it!
Let us
do well, so our countenance will be lifted up.
In Your
name, Jesus~”
