Please read Genesis 2.
Meditate on verse 4.
This is the account of the heavens and the earth
when they were created,
in the day that the LORD God made earth and heaven.
Genesis
2:1-3 completes the story of God’s creation week. Genesis 2:4 begins with a
phrase repeated throughout Genesis: “This is the account of ...” It is the
Hebrew word towledah; and it literally means “these are the generations
...” This phrase is also in Genesis 5:1; 6:9; 10:1, 32; 11:10, 27; 25:12, 19;
36:1, 9, and 37:2.
Genesis 1-2
sets up an important pattern for the rest of the book. Genesis is organized by
genealogies, followed by an elaboration on a section of the genealogy. Genesis
1 is the genealogy of creation. Genesis 2 gives more details focusing on the
creation of man—part of the genealogy. The remainder of Genesis is written
using this pattern: a genealogy will be given followed by a detailed story
about one family from the genealogy.
Genesis is
the story of God creating and establishing families. It is beautifully written
by the One who perfectly created you and is currently writing your story. As
you spend the rest of the year reading God’s story about families, pray for His
miraculous creative work in the families for whom you are praying.
Pray Genesis
2:20 and 24-25 over married couples for whom you stand guard as a faithful,
prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD,
make ________ a suitable helper for _________.
Let them
leave their father and mother and be joined to each other.
May they
become one flesh.
Let them
be naked
with each other and not ashamed.
In Your
name, Jesus~”
