Psalm 119:65-72 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 119:65-72.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/119/1/s_597001
Meditate on and memorize verse 66.

Teach me good discernment and knowledge,
for I believe in Your commandments.

What a great perspective on trials and afflictions!  The psalmist recognizes that when life seemed to go his way, he went astray.  Difficult times caused him to evaluate his life and keep the LORD’s Word.  He even saw the good in being afflicted because then he learned God’s statutes.

What is your perspective on affliction?  When a trial comes your way, use the difficult time to come humbly before God, asking Him to show you unconfessed sins in your life.  God wants trials to draw you into a deeper relationship with Him and His Word.

Pray Psalm 119:65-72 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“O LORD, you have dealt well with _________ and me, Your servants,
 according to Your Word.  Teach us good discernment
 and knowledge, for we believe in Your commandments.
 Before we were afflicted, we went astray, but now we keep
Your Word.  You are good and do good; teach us Your statutes.
The arrogant have forged a lie against us;
with all our hearts, help us observe Your precepts.
Their heart is covered with fat, but we delight in Your law.
 It is good for us that we were afflicted,
 that we may learn Your statutes.  The law of Your mouth
is better to us than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 119:57-64 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 119:57-64.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/119/1/s_597001
Meditate on and memorize verse 57.

The LORD is my portion; I have promised to keep Your Words.

The LORD is more than enough to meet all the needs of your life.  His Word will sustain you.  He gives you the privilege to seek Him with all your heart; He gives you grace and favor.

Ponder the truths from this eighth stanza of Psalm 119.  Ponder your ways.  What in your life needs to turn to the LORD’s testimonies instead of the world’s?   Ask the Holy Spirit to convict you of sin and do not delay to keep His commandments.  Choose to surround yourself with people who fear God and keep His precepts.

The earth is full of the LORD’s lovingkindness.  Look for it today as you pray Psalm 119:57-64 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, You are _______ and my portion;
we promise to keep Your Words.
We seek Your favor with all our heart;
please be gracious to us according to Your Word.
 Help us consider our ways and turn our feet to Your testimonies.
 Help us hasten and not delay to keep Your commandments.
When the cords of the wicked encircle us,
do not let us forget Your law.
 At midnight we shall rise to give thanks to You
because of Your righteous ordinances.
 Let us be a companion of all those who fear You
and those who keep Your precepts.
The earth is full of Your lovingkindness, O LORD;
 teach us Your statutes.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 119:49-56 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 119:49-56.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/119/1/s_597001
Meditate on and memorize verse 50.

This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your Word has revived me.

This seventh stanza in Psalm 119 reveals an afflicted psalmist.  Surrounded by the arrogant and the wicked, God and His Word are his sources of comfort and hope.

Perhaps you can relate.  Have you ever been so distraught on a sleepless night that the only thing you can remember is the name of the LORD Jesus, saying it over and over?  Have you ever felt stripped of everything, yet you can say, “This is mine; I observe the LORD’s precepts”?

Thankfully you have the verses of this psalm to pray during difficult times.  Pray them over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, please remember the Word to Your servants,
 in which You have made _______ and me hope.
This is our comfort in our affliction, that Your Word has revived us.
The arrogant utterly deride us, yet we do not turn
aside from Your law.  Help us to remember Your ordinances from of
 old, O LORD, and comfort us.  Burning indignation has seized us
because of the wicked who forsake Your law.  Your statutes
are our song in the house of our pilgrimage.
 O LORD, we remember Your name in the night and keep Your law.
This has become ours, that we observe Your precepts.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 119:41-48 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 119:41-48.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/119/1/s_597001
Meditate on and memorize verse 45.

And I will walk at liberty, for I seek Your precepts.

Why was the psalmist able to walk in freedom?  Because he sought to follow the LORD’s commandments.  Keeping the law of the LORD is the blessed secret to attaining true freedom. The lie of Satan and the world is you should do whatever you want, whatever feels right to you.  God’s Word calls that slavery to sin (Romans 6).  In Christ, you are no longer a slave to sin; you are a child of God with the freedom to walk with God—Amazing!

Thank the LORD for the gift of walking at liberty with Him and pray Psalm 119:41-48 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“O LORD, may Your lovingkindness also come to _________ and me,
Your salvation according to Your Word.  Let us have an
answer for him who reproaches us, for we trust in Your Word.
 Do not take the Word of Truth utterly out of our mouths,
for we wait for Your ordinances.  We will keep Your law continually,
 forever and ever.  And we will walk at liberty, for we seek Your
 precepts.  We will also speak of Your testimonies before kings
and shall not be ashamed.  We shall delight in Your commandments,
which we love.  We shall lift up our hands to Your commandments,
which we love; and we will meditate on Your statutes.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 119:33-40 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 119:33-40.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/119/1/s_597001
Meditate on and memorize verse 33.

Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes,
and I shall observe it to the end.

In this fifth stanza, the psalmist realizes the only way to thrive in this life is to do it God’s way.  These are verses of total commitment to the LORD and His Word as the psalmist declares to keep God’s law with all his heart and observe it to the end (vs. 33-34).

What about you?  Do you crave God’s Word?  Do you want God to establish you in it for the purpose of walking in reverence with Him all the days of your life?

In humility, ask the Holy Spirit to show you things you long for more than Christ and His Word.  In repentance, pray Psalm 119:33-40 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“O LORD, teach _______ and me the way of Your statutes,
and let us observe them to the end.  Give us understanding,
that we may observe Your law and keep it with all our heart.
Make us walk in the path of Your commandments;
let us delight in them.  Incline our hearts to Your testimonies
and not to dishonest gain.  Turn away our eyes from looking
 at vanity and revive us in Your ways.  Establish Your Word
 to us, Your servants, as that which produces reverence for You.
 Turn away reproach, which we dread, for Your
 ordinances are good.  Behold, we long for Your precepts;
 revive us through Your righteousness.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 119:25-32 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 119:25-32.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/119/1/s_597001
Meditate on and memorize verse 26.

I have told of my ways, and You have answered me;
teach me Your statutes.

Can you imagine this conversation between God and the psalmist?  Thinking he was doing alright, the psalmist told about his ways; when the LORD said something like, “So, do you really think your ways are pleasing in My sight?”

Whatever the LORD said caused the psalmist to ask God to teach him His statutes.  A man’s way is no good unless it is God’s way.

There is a way which seems right to a man,
 but its end is the way of death.
—Proverbs 14:12

How would the LORD answer you if you started telling Him about your ways?  Ask Him to teach you His ways as you pray Psalm 119:25-32 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, my soul cleaves to the dust; revive ________ and me
 according to Your Word.  I have told of our ways, and You have
 answered me; teach us Your statutes.  Make us understand
the way of Your precepts, so we will meditate on Your wonders.
 My soul weeps because of grief; strengthen us according
 to Your Word.  Remove the false way from us and graciously
 grant us Your law.  Help us choose the faithful way
 and let us place Your ordinances before us.  We cling to
Your testimonies; O LORD, do not put us to shame!
 Help us run the way of Your commandments, for
 You will enlarge our hearts.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 119:17-24 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 119:17-24.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/119/1/s_597001
Meditate on and memorize verse 24.

Your testimonies also are my delight; they are my counselors.

The psalmist recognizes his citizenship is not on this earth; therefore, he needs God’s commandments and counseling as he sojourns here.  The world’s rules and advice will not satisfy his soul; he desperately longs for God’s ordinances and testimonies.

As you meditate on God’s Word, let it shape your thoughts and behaviors.  Even if others say negative things about you, let the LORD’s statutes be what you think about.  You will be amazed how different your days will be when you fix your eyes on Christ and His Word instead of the circumstances around you.

Pray Psalm 119:17-24 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, please deal bountifully with _______ and
 me, Your servants, that we may live and keep Your Word.
Open our eyes that we may behold wonderful
 things from Your law.  We are strangers in the earth;
do not hide Your commandments from us.
Our souls are crushed with longing after Your
 ordinances at all times.  Do not let us be the
 arrogant, the cursed, whom You rebuke.
 Do not let us wander from Your commandments!
Take away reproach and contempt from us, for
 we observe Your testimonies.  Even though others
sit and talk against us, help us to meditate on Your statutes.
We are Your servants.  Your testimonies are
our delight; they are our counselors.
In Your name, Jesus~”
