Psalm 119:9-16 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 119:9-16.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/119/1/s_597001
Meditate on and memorize verse 11.

Your Word I have treasured in my heart
that I may not sin against You.

Is there anything in your life that you do wholeheartedly? Perhaps it’s your job, sport, or hobby.  What about your LORD?  Do you wholeheartedly pursue God and His desires?

The psalmist learned that pursuing God and His Word kept him from sinning.   Wholeheartedly keeping and treasuring God’s commands kept him from wandering off God’s path for his life.

Ask the LORD to search your heart and reveal things you treasure more than Him.  Ask Him to teach you His statutes and pray Psalm 119:9-16 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, help _________ and me keep our way pure by
keeping it according to Your Word.
Help us seek You with all our heart; do
not let us wander from Your commandments.
Let us treasure Your Word in our heart,
that we may not sin against You.
Blessed are You, O LORD, teach us Your statutes.
With our lips, let us tell of all the ordinances of Your mouth.
May we rejoice in the way of Your testimonies
as much as in all riches.
We will meditate on Your precepts and regard Your ways!
We shall delight in Your statutes!
We shall not forget Your Word!
In Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 119:1-8 - Praying God's Word

Psalm 119 is an amazing psalm!  Its 176 verses are divided into 22 sections or stanzas, one for each of the 22 characters that make up the Hebrew alphabet.  Each stanza contains eight verses, and in the Hebrew text (the language of the Old Testament), the eight verses of each stanza begin with the same Hebrew letter as that stanza.

You will spend the next 22 days walking slowly through this Scripture. As you read, notice the repeated words: law, testimonies, statutes, ordinances, precepts, and word, which all refer to the Bible.  The LORD makes it clear through the psalmist, that to truly know and walk with Him, you must know His Word.

We will suggest a verse for you to meditate on and memorize each day.  Feel free to choose any of the eight verses to memorize, so you can walk more closely with your Creator and LORD.  Say your verse over and over all day long – silently and out loud.  Speak it to the people you talk to throughout the day.  Pray it over yourself, your loved ones, and the people in the car next to you.  God’s Word will change your world.

We pray these 22 days with be miraculous for you and your family.

Please read Psalm 119:1-8.

Meditate on and memorize verse 1.

How blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD.

The psalmist made some important observations in these eight verses.  The LORD commands His precepts be kept diligently, blessing those who walk in His ways.  The psalmist sincerely wanted to learn God’s righteous judgments, so his ways would be established to keep God’s statutes.

Does your heart’s cry echo that of the psalmist?  Are you ready to say, “I shall keep Your statutes” (v. 8)?  As you begin this 22-day journey into Psalm 119, ask God to give you His heart for His Word.

Pray Psalm 119:1-8 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, let ________ and me be those who are blessed, whose way is blameless.  Help us to walk in Your law, LORD.  Let us observe Your testimonies and seek You with all our heart.  Let us do no unrighteousness and walk in Your ways.  You have ordained Your precepts that we should keep them diligently.  Oh, that our ways may be established to keep Your statutes!  Then we shall not be ashamed when we look upon all Your commandments.  We shall give thanks to You with uprightness of heart when we learn Your righteous judgments.  We shall keep Your statutes.
Please do not forsake us utterly!
In Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 118 - Praying God's Word

Psalm 118 is probably the hymn Jesus and His disciples sang after drinking the last cup of wine at the Passover, the cup representing Christ’s blood that would soon be “poured out for many for forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 5:28).1 As you read Psalm 118, hear the voice of Jesus singing the words and imagine what was going through His mind as He sang.

Please read Psalm 118.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/118/1/s_596001
Meditate on verses 6, 17, and 24.

The LORD is for me; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
I will not die, but live,
and tell of the works of the LORD.
This is the day which the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Jesus rejoiced on that day because as He sang, He knew He was the fulfillment of this psalm:
·      The Gate the righteous enter to come to God (v. 20; John 10:7, 9)
·      Salvation (v. 21; Luke 2:25-30)
·      The Stone the builders rejected who became the chief corner stone (v. 22; 1 Peter 2:6-7)
·      The blessed One, coming in the name of the LORD (v. 26; John 12:12-13)
·      The Light of the world (v. 27; John 8:12)
·      The Passover festival sacrifice (v. 27; 1 Corinthians 5:7)

Reread Psalm 118, singing it in thanksgiving to your Savior.

“Thank You, LORD, for You are good;
Your lovingkindness is everlasting.
I fear You, LORD, and I say,
 ‘Your lovingkindness is everlasting.’”
—Psalm 118:1, 4

Psalm 117 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 117.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/117/1/s_595001
Meditate on this phrase from verse 2.

The truth of the LORD is everlasting.

People are quick to meditate on and claim the first phrase of verse 2—His lovingkindness is great toward us.
Most people want God’s lovingkindness—they want His blessings. But sadly, many have believed Satan’s lie which says that truth is relative, and truth is what is true for you; therefore, there is no absolute truth. However—the truth of the LORD is everlasting!
Speak the truth of the LORD, meditate on it, memorize it, and tell it to everyone you know. Commit your life to studying God’s Word, the Bible, so you can actually know the everlasting truth of God, living it every moment of your life.
Pray Psalm 117 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, I look forward to the day
 when all nations praise You
and all peoples laud You.
I praise You and laud You,
for Your lovingkindness
is great toward __________ and me,
and Your truth is everlasting.
Praise the LORD!”

Psalm 116 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 116.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/116/1/s_594001
Meditate on verse 1.

I love the LORD because He hears
 my voice and my supplications.

Have you ever agonized in prayer for a long time over someone or something in which you desperately wanted God to do the miraculous? This psalm is a great one to cling to when you are in the midst of beseeching prayers and when you are praising the LORD for hearing and answering your cries.
Pray Psalm 116 now as His faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“I love You, LORD, because You hear my voice
and my supplications.  Because You incline Your ear to me,
I shall call upon You as long as I live.
The cords of death encompassed me, and the terrors of Sheol
came upon me; I found distress and sorrow.
Then I called upon Your name, LORD:
‘O LORD, I beseech You, save my life!’
LORD, You are gracious and righteous; You are compassionate.
You preserve the simple; I was brought low, and You saved me.
My soul is at rest because You have dealt bountifully with me, LORD.
You rescued my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling.
I will walk before You, LORD, in the land of the living.
Thank You for saving me from my affliction and the lies of men.
Because of all Your benefits toward me, I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call upon Your name, LORD.  I will pay my vows to You, LORD;
may it be in the presence of all Your people.
Precious in Your sight is the death of Your Godly ones.
O LORD, surely I am Your servant; I am Your servant,
the child of Your handmaid; You have loosed my bonds.
To You, I shall offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving
and call upon Your name.  I shall pay my vows to You, LORD.
Oh may it be in the presence of all Your people,
in the courts of Your house, LORD.
Praise the LORD!”

Psalm 115 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 115.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/115/1/s_593001
Meditate on verse 1.

Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name give glory
because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth.

This psalm is rich with verses to ponder and pray.
The LORD, the Maker of the heavens and the earth, is the living God. Unlike idols, He sees, hears, smells, feels, and walks (vs. 5-7). He is our God, and He does whatever He pleases (v. 3). He alone is worthy of all our trust, fear, and praise (v. 11). He helps, shields, and blesses those who fear Him (vs. 11, 13). But, those whose god is an idol become like that which they worship—mute, blind, deaf, unfeeling, immobile, and dead (vs. 4-8, 17). Those of us alive in the LORD, however, will bless Him from this time forth and forever (v. 18). Praise the LORD!
Pray Psalm 115:1, 11-15, and 18 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name give glory
because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth.
May __________ and I fear only You and trust only You.
Be our help and our shield.
Be mindful of us and bless us as we fear You, LORD.
Please give us, and our children, increase.
LORD, Maker of heaven and earth, please bless us.
We will bless You, LORD, from this
time forth and forever.  Praise the LORD!”

Psalm 114 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 114.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/114/1/s_592001
Meditate on verses 7-8.

Tremble, O earth, before the LORD, before the God
of Jacob, who turned the rock into a pool of
water, the flint into a fountain of water.

This psalm recalls several miracles God did for Israel as part of saving them from slavery in Egypt.

·      Opening of the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21)
·      Opening of the Jordan River (Joshua 3:13, 16)
·      Bringing water to drink from a rock (Exodus 17:6)

Can you relate to this psalm? Recall the day God brought you out of slavery to sin. Remember how the LORD miraculously opened doors for you and thank Him for working on your behalf. Never forget the day God turned your heart of flint into a heart for Him and gave you the living water of His Spirit (John 4:10; 7:37-39).
Take some time to write your own psalm of recollection to help you remember how God saved you.
Use the words from Psalm 114:1-2 and 8 to pray over those who need a psalm of salvation, as their faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, please bring _________ forth from their slavery
to sin and Satan.  Free them from the strange language of the world.
Jesus, please become their sanctuary and their dominion.
Turn their heart that is as hard as rock into a pool of water.
Make their heart of flint a fountain of living water.
By Your Holy Spirit, in Your name, Jesus~”
